La finestra sul Cortile

The window on the Courtyard
1985-2005 Il Cortile twenty years on

Teatro delle Passioni, Modena

26/10/2005 15:00

Twenty years on from Il Cortile (The Courtyard), a milestone in Italian dance-theatre created by Sosta Palmizi, the festival will host in a single evening the latest works by the company’s lead artists.

In November 1984, Carolyn Carson conducted an experimental dance workshop at the Teatro La Fenice, Venice. The ensemble included Michele Abbondanza, Francesca Bertolli, Roberto Castello, Roberto Cocconi, Raffaella Giordano and Giorgio Rossi who, at the end of the project, founded the Sosta Palmizi company.

The need to reunite to mark Il Cortile’s twentieth anniversary underlines the desire to celebrate the beginnings of an Italian school of contemporary choreography.
The keynote here is memory: the transmission of information (and the quality of that information) which made it possible for currents and trends which were artistically distinct but interrelated to intersect and communicate one with the other. The desire to celebrate a rite of gratitude and acknowledgement, where the link between the past and future becomes evident.
