A ceremony, some folk dances, moments of intimacy born of street theatre, pictures, processions, music. Of poetry and delirium.
Mariages has been on the road for four years now: the Théatre de Chambre set out from Aulnoye-Aymeries, in Northern France, tracing constellations across the map of Europe, wherever its caravan stopped in town squares or commons and the curtain rose on a troupe of wandering players whose job was to bring the show back to life. Every year new stories, new private conversations, new characters and lives join the circle of wagons, where the director Christophe Piret transforms the inside of every caravan into a stage to form a surprising chamber theatre. Workaday heroes whisper inches from our ears, making even the slightest trembling of the breath clearly audible. Mariages does not invite the public to the theatre but takes the theatre out into the community where the people are, involving each visitor in a journey which imparts its own highly personal vision. Six caravans for six scenes played at the same time and repeated every thirty minutes: every visitor chooses a caravan which can take up to six guests, and then enters another caravan or else come back some other time. Passing through Vignola, the Théâtre de Chambre will meet up with the Teatro delle Ariette of Bologna, which will add its own caravan to the circle. The result will be a festival of little theatres which will light up the night with their gypsy spirit. The fireworks and dancing will last till dawn.
