A donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster are old and tired and no longer fulfil their master’s expectations. A tragic end seems unavoidable. So the four animals decide to escape – and off they go with a spring in their step. They set off for Bremen, where they intend to start a new life as town musicians. But on the path through the forest they discover a robbers’ hideout. Drawing on all their forces (and with an almighty hullabaloo) the animals chase the robbers from the house, and celebrate their success with a big feast. The animals are so happy in their new house that will they ever make it to Bremen? Or perhaps they will find their very own Bremen right there at home? This is a funny story with symbolic meaning.
Nicole & Martin
Nicole was born in Geneva in 1971, and Martin in Liestal (Basel, Switzerland) in 1970. From 1993 to 1996, they both attended the Scuola Teatro Dimitri (the theatre school run by Swiss clown and mime artist Dimitri). From 1997 to 1999, Nicole and Martin were members of the Compagnia Dimitri, touring Europe and Korea.
In 1999 they founded their own professional, independent theatre group with its own wooden-framed big top, wooden caravans and splendid towing vehicles, which have progressed from tractors upwards. Since then, Nicole & Martin have travelled extensively throughout the world performing their plays. Their programme includes four ancient folk tales by the Brothers Grimm. In the 10 years from 1999 to 2009, Nicole & Martin performed 1479 times in 274 venues and in 8 different countries. The shows are translated and performed in 7 different languages.
In 2002 Nicole & Martin were awarded a prize for the promotion of culture by the canton of Basel in Switzerland, and received both the prestigious Tapwater Award and the sought-after Sold-Out Award from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006 (Scotland).
