We follow the adventures of Hänsel and Gretel, a young boy and girl, through this dramatic story. The children have been abandoned in the dark forest by their selfish parents. Hungry and cold, the unfortunate brother and sister meet a very welcoming old woman, who turns out to be a wicked witch. Despite all odds, together they find the strength to overcome this evil. They discover all kind of treasures, fill their pockets and finally find their way back home. This story is packed with funny surprises and little details which are often forgotten and which lend this serious story a delightful lightness of touch.
Nicole & Martin
Nicole was born in Geneva in 1971, and Martin in Liestal (Basel, Switzerland) in 1970. From 1993 to 1996, they both attended the Scuola Teatro Dimitri (the theatre school run by Swiss clown and mime artist Dimitri). From 1997 to 1999, Nicole and Martin were members of the Compagnia Dimitri, touring Europe and Korea.
In 1999 they founded their own professional, independent theatre group with its own wooden-framed big top, wooden caravans and splendid towing vehicles, which have progressed from tractors upwards. Since then, Nicole & Martin have travelled extensively throughout the world performing their plays. Their programme includes four ancient folk tales by the Brothers Grimm. In the 10 years from 1999 to 2009, Nicole & Martin performed 1479 times in 274 venues and in 8 different countries. The shows are translated and performed in 7 different languages.
In 2002 Nicole & Martin were awarded a prize for the promotion of culture by the canton of Basel in Switzerland, and received both the prestigious Tapwater Award and the sought-after Sold-Out Award from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006 (Scotland).
