Forced Entertainment is a company composed of six actors, based in Sheffield, UK, from 1984.
Their work varies from performances to projects that regard other media and contexts, including a variety of styles, from the brash and theatrical to other works that are very minimal and text-based.
They try to find ways to talk about contemporary experience, and to create exciting and intimate encounters with audiences.
They have presented their projects in a lot of different places in the UK, all over mainland Europe and much further afield.
“The Guardian” newspaper has called Forced Entertainment “Britain’s most brilliant experimental theatre company”.
In development since last year with the core team of Forced Entertainment and following work in progress showings in Bergen, Spectacular has now found its final form.
A performer takes to the stage, explaining that the show we’re watching is, somehow, different tonight. The atmosphere is different, his entrance is off, the lights are wrong, some scenery is missing, some performers are absent. The tone is all wrong. The audience reaction, our protagonist says, is not quite what he expected. Perhaps the fact he is dressed as a skeleton has something to do with it.
Spectacular is about the now of the performance moment. It is full of possibilities, humor, invention.
It's also about death, about the strange relationship between two performers on-stage and an audience.
