Inferno by Romeo Castellucci and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, that made its début at Avignone in the huge open space of the Popes Palace Cour d’Honneur, reaches VIE abandoning the ecclesiastical architecture to reconstruct the atmosphere of the first cantica within the Teatro Comunale in Modena.
A crowd of actors and extras invades the scene. They are the damned who, far from being a community, struggle in a solitary condition, finding the key of their acts in dismay. A deep darkness invades the audience giving rise to the same bewilderment that frightens and paralyzes Dante, making him lost in the darkness.
As a matter of fact, Virgilio induce him to penetrate murk instead of following the gleam of light that would lead him out of the forest. Dante, author of the work, is assailed by dread and poetry ghosts that would savage him like beasts.
In this dark room where vision is denied, everything can be imagined: darkness, confusion and crisis symbolize the artist condition in the early stages of creation, a bewilderment that, as regards Dante, simbolyzes a deep spiritual crisis, but it could be considered the art condition tout court. People and human relationships that spring from Castellucci Inferno, live in a nostalgic condition for life.
