Teatro en el Blanco is a Chilean independent company founded in 2004 and composed of four theatrical professional actors .
It is distinguished by autonomy, simplicity and search for a language staff and the creation of new texts, thanks to the director and playwright Guillermo Calderon, winner of national prize Altazor for the work Neva (best director and dramaturgy). The piece, which made its debut a year and half ago, was an international success and was seen by 25,300 people. He also received national recognition as "2006 Best Opera" at Circle Critics Award.
Neva is the name of the main river in St. Petersburg and, also, the story of Olga Knipper, the wife of Anton Cechov. Six months after the death of her husband, victim of tuberculosis, departs for a week from the Moscow Art Theatre, where she is the first actress, to prove in a theatre of St. Petersburg. However she arrives in the city amid the intense revolutionary turbulence of winter 1905.
In the theatre hall, Olga tells to the two present actors about her guilt for having lived away from Anton during his illness. This fault paralyzes her so much to stop her to recite. To try to overcome this limitation, she claims the two actors to recite the Cechov’ death. From those attemps are born discussions about theater, politics and especially about love. However, is it possible to speak about love in a historical context like that? Neva examines the relationship between the theatre and its historical context.
