Bolognese of birth, Dutch of adoption, Francesca Grilli has grown, mainly in the photography, video and performance sphere. La Terza Conversazione is her new project, that draw its strength from thecnical mastery and precision in the staging but, above all, from the ability to give emotions. Francesca Grilli has been developing an important research about the relationship between deaf people and music, for long time.
Spectators, involved in a tactile and visual listening, perceive and live music as an experience that creates a new way to listen to.
On the stage a composer and a deaf singer interpret the sound each one in a personal way. Francesca Grilli plumbs the subtle relatioship between deafness and music by reinventing the listening action. So the sound is absorbed and analysed through ears and touch.
A visibile and audible listening according to new modalities.
Breathing and to be silent are two actions that don’t need the use of words.
“I dream of a new substance, an inexplicable manifestation of the invisible. This manifestation seems to happen for an association, but it has a magical aura and sometimes it looks like a miracle. Paying attention to this manifestation, words turns into a charm. Daily miracles.”
I ask a composer and a deaf singer to interpret a sound. I steal a silent languange, a method, I try to investigate reality to reveal the ordinary and the wonderful. There will be a comunication between nature and people, between what we can perceive and what we cannot. Between different time, different places, between visible and invisible, fiction and experience. Leaving always the chance that things should be not so quite and silent as they appear.”
