NATIONAL PREMIERE
Via Negativa is a seven-year theatre research project. VN investigates the basics of theatricality - it explores different relations between the actor and the spectator and introduces the post-dramatic performing strategies into the classical theatre convention. It is not about inventing a new stylistic paradigm, it is simply a return, a reconsideration of the reasons, the meaning, the goal and the methods of theatre as a medium and an exploration of its mechanisms. VN research is based on the reduction of the stage presence to the minimum of theatrical signs and positive attitude to the audience - performances are, above all, a sphere of communication, not a medium of aestheticisation.
Backgrounds of VN research are fundamental human characteristics, integrated in the concept of seven deadly sins. Anger, gluttony, greed, lust, sloth, envy, pride decisively define the identity of each individual. The task of a VN performer is to investigate and to perform different forms of his/her indulgence in these basic human qualities or a fight against them - he is the material and the author of his scene. VN doesn't develop special actor's techniques and it is not a training of actor's skills. VN is a model of the creative process that consciously reduces its working conditions.
The VN project will be concluded in 2009 with a performance Via Nova, which will integrate all material, performers and co-producers from VN research period 2002-2008.
