After many reserves, since the other people who were speaking about it were all hippies, last year I read a book: The One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka, a japanese man, died in 2008, who dedicated his whole life to practicing natural farming. A paradox: considering that farming is a human intervention on nature.

The book hurted me; I found my practice and research of the past 20 years at the Ariette in it. So we decided to create a performance to state that other routes and ways of life are possible and we started working on Teatro naturale?
As it often happens during the creative process, we abandoned "The One Straw Revolution" and launched into the void following the word: "Natural".
We found ourselves in the heart of a formation story: my encounter with love, in France, during the summer of 1978.
A natural love that opened the way of my knowledge, that made me taste the cous cous for the first time and made me discover The Stranger by Albert Camus, the book that changed my life and let me standing in front of the neverending conflict between the natural and the social man.
Past and present are connected and confused in this show: the past of the story we tell and the present of the performance we act. Since theatre is only in the present and only speaks about today, even if it narrates old stories.
And during the show we prepare the cous cous for you, because I cannot imagine a theatre outside a kitchen, far from a table, without food and wine.
Cous cous and tortellini are really the same thing for me: tastes of memories that live in the present.
Maybe, before he was born, Stefano had spent some time in Algeria. Maybe another life. Because yesterday and today are really the same thing, since time is not passing by, we do.

Teatro delle Ariette

Teatro delle Ariette is a cultural association, studying, producing and promoting theatre. It was born in 1996 and since then it has created, performed and/or promoted events in houses, bakeries, hospitals, schools, streets, piazzas and in fields, but also in important national and international theatres. The association is named after the name of the farm where everything started: The “Ariette” (Castello di Serravalle in the Bologna municipality), and where we (Berselli and Pasquini) have been living since 1989, leading the farm. In 1999, in the middle of the fields, we autonomously built the “Deposito Attrezzi” (=the warehouse) literally with our hands, intended as a country building for theatre. We are authors, builders and producers of our theatre in every sense. Teatro delle Ariette is not only a company of players, but something more: an experience, a daily practice to search a place where art, life and work live together and are the same thing.
Our theatre is a “land theatre”, made by hand, experienced through the body. Our search is a journey trough what is human, a constant work to open the door that brings inside: in the invisible theatre of the heart. Where our theatre is.
