Karina Medvedeva, one of the most promising young Russian actress who took the degree at St. Petersburg Theatre Academy in 2011 having attended Veniamin Fil’shtinskiy’s course, will present at Teatro delle Passioni the Italian premiere of a monologue based on Euripide’s Medea.
Medea origineted during Medvedeva's studies and then became an indipendent performance. It has yet been presented into several festivals, such as the International Festival of Theatre Schools in Brno (Czech Republic) the International Festival of Monologues Monokl' in St. Petersburg (where she gained the special prize for “Best Premiere”), the International Festival of Monologues SOLO in Moscow (Russia).
Medvedeva joined the last edition of the Off Festival in Avignon with No Exit, based on the play by Jean-Paul Sartre.
In Euripide’s pičce the young performer singles out a real soul confession, that shows itself on scene through her work, her gestures, a carful choice of real evocative words and a minimal setting.
Medea’s tale is a story of love, revenge, madness but mainly of soul pain… Medea is rejected by her husband, her family and her society: left alone, she desperately tries to find again in her world a tiny recollection of love, fidelity, dignity. But this overwhelming effort destroys once and for all her universe, taking her to make with her own hands a monstrous sacrifice: the killing of her sons. Then, wishing to expiate her guilt, she kills herself: as Medvedeva affirms: “No mortal being can be happy in this world: this is the moral that Medea draws at the end of her life”.
